Grand Theft Auto is the seminal 1997 top-down action-adventure game developed by DMA Design, originally published by BMG Interactive and later reissued under Take 2 Interactive for budget re-release editions. The game’s widespread popularity across Europe led to multiple re-releases throughout the PlayStation’s lifespan.

This Platinum re-release, dated 2 January 1999, was distributed across France, Germany, and Italy as a combined continental European pressing under the Sony Platinum budget label. It is presented in a Full Jewel PAL case with a Hologram B on the case and contains a single disc. The game supports English, French, German, and Italian. No loose paperwork, case stickers, or bundled demo discs are included. This pressing is one of eight catalogued PAL variants for Grand Theft Auto, and represents the Platinum budget reissue for the continental European market, distinguishable from the UK Platinum edition by its distinct EAN barcode. Platinum editions of Grand Theft Auto are commonly encountered but remain an important part of a complete PAL variant set for the title.
