Starblade Alpha

Starblade Alpha is a rail shooter developed by High-Tech Lab Japan and published by Namco, representing an enhanced PlayStation port of the acclaimed 1991 Namco arcade game Starblade. The PlayStation version adds an additional mode featuring fully textured models, expanding on the original’s first-person space combat gameplay in which the player pilots the starfighter FX-01 GeoSword against the alien UIMS threat.

The database catalogues a single PAL variant, dated 15 February 1996, covering a broad range of European territories including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Finland, Norway, and Sweden in one combined pressing. This original release is presented in a Multiway Jewel One Disk case, a format associated with early PAL PlayStation releases, and contains a single disc presented in English. The case carries no hologram. A Namco 0001 single-sided thin promotional flyer is included as loose paperwork, and no bundled demo discs are present. As the sole catalogued PAL variant, this pressing is the only documented physical PlayStation release of Starblade Alpha for the European market, and its wide multi-territory distribution combined with the Multiway Jewel case format gives it a distinctive early-era PAL character that appeals to collectors of launch-window PlayStation titles.
