Resident Evil is the landmark 1996 survival horror game developed by Capcom Production Studio 4 and published in Europe by Virgin Interactive, credited with establishing the conventions of the survival horror genre. Players control Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine of the elite S.T.A.R.S. unit, navigating a zombie-infested mansion to uncover the truth behind a series of gruesome incidents near Raccoon City.
