Parodius
SLES-00036
Initially Released 15 March 1996
Parodius is a horizontal-scrolling shoot-em-up compilation developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo and published by Konami, collecting the first two arcade entries in the series, Parodius Da! and Gokujou Parodius, on a single disc. The series is a comedic parody of Konami’s own Gradius franchise, featuring absurdist enemies and chaotic two-player action.
The database currently catalogues one PAL variant for Parodius. That release, dated 15 March 1996, was distributed exclusively in the UK and is presented in an English-language Full Jewel PAL case with a single disc and no hologram on the case. No loose paperwork, case stickers, or bundled demo discs are documented. The UK-only distribution of this original release, combined with the absence of any Platinum or budget reprint in the PAL catalogue, makes it a title of genuine interest to collectors, particularly those focused on Konami’s early PlayStation output. The compilation format, offering arcade-accurate versions of both games, also adds to its appeal beyond novelty alone.
