Chronicles of the Sword

Chronicles of the Sword is a point-and-click adventure game developed by Synthetic Dimensions and published by Psygnosis, originally titled King Arthur: The Quest of The Fair Unknown. Set in the early years of Camelot, players take the role of the young knight Gawain on a quest to destroy the sorceress Morgana before she can destroy King Arthur’s kingdom.

Five PAL variants are catalogued in the database, spanning an unusually wide range of territories including the UK, Sweden, Finland, Norway, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Greece, Portugal, and Spain. All variants are under the Original release type and use a Multiway Jewel Two Disk case format with two discs and no hologram on the case. The earliest PAL release date on record is 27 November 1996. Each variant is distinguished by its primary language, with separate serials covering English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish markets, and multiple territories sometimes sharing a single serial. No loose paperwork or bundled demo discs have been documented for any variant. The two-disc Multiway Jewel format and the breadth of territorial releases, spanning over ten countries, make Chronicles of the Sword one of the more geographically widespread PAL releases of its era, and assembling the full set of five regional variants is a notable challenge for collectors.
